18 month sleep regression - when will it end?!

I think I’m hoping for any tips or solidarity or both with this thread!

DD is 18 months and for the past week and a half has been waking up every 30mins to an hour continuously through the night. We’re barely getting a chance to sleep in between her waking up and I’d be surprised if she’s getting much of a sleep either.

She’s my third (DS1 and DS2 didn’t go through this to this extent so this is new to me). Up until this point she was an average to good sleeper - she’s slept through the night since about 12 months from 6.30 to 5.30/6.

Our approach has been the same as usual - give her a chance to have some sips of water if it’s been a few hours, lay her down in her cot (she’s always standing up crying when we go in) without any chat, say ‘time to sleep’ and leave the room. She invariably is quiet and happy when we leave but then 20mins or so later, juuuuust as we’re drifting back to sleep, she starts all over again. She has a little light projector that is quite dim and projects stars onto her ceiling. She isn’t cold or too hot. She isn’t in pain. She’s got most of her teeth so don’t think it’s extreme teething. She goes down for her nap after lunch like a dream. At the moment she goes down for her bedtime sleep in the evening happily too at 6.30. It’s just the nights that are a complete nightmare.

Can anyone identify or offer reassurance it will end and not too long away (hopefully)?!

Sorry no advice but we are in exactly the same boat. It’s just constant screaming. Up until a month ago my baby was sleeping 6.30-6 too. Now it’s five hours a night if we’re lucky! I have no idea what to do. Best of luck your end x

Thank you! And wishing you sleep vibes too. It’s got slightly better but we’re talking 3 wake-ups a night and constant grizzling from 4.30-6 when we think nobody is sleeping so let’s just start the day. Hope the regression ends soon - I’ll be a husk if it carries on for another 4 weeks.

How’s it going OP? Has there been any improvement?

Hello! Yes it has improved thankfully! It’s taken six weeks for us to get there. Not fully through the night yet and she’s not settling quite so easily yet at night and for her daytime nap but there’s progress. She’s waking up about twice in the night but does settle quickly after a sip of water and giving her cuddly toy back to her to hold. She’s not crying for long spells anymore either. But we had to introduce a red night light and white noise (raindrops) all night to get there. How’s it going with you @CheesePleaseLoueese?
