Head Running Baby

, thought I'd post on here as I'm desperate for any advice. I have a 4 month old, that when he falls asleep/waking up rubs his head extremely aggressively, this had drawn blood several times. Even with cuffed baby grows, with trimmed nails. I have had to resort to him wearing socks on his hands. Although these have been pulled off a couple of times. I don't use anything on his head as he has very dry skin and was advised not to use anything by HV. The rubbing is clearly not an irritant though as he only does this when falling asleep. However it's extremely distressing for me to be woken up with him having a bloody head , it looks awful. Thankfully the only tears are mine and he seems perfectly fine and smiley. I'm not sure what else I can do, I think I have exhausted all options, apart from ringing the docs as it's more a soothing/, comfort thing and not sure what he'll be able to do. Anyone else had this issue?
