Toddler will still on nap next to me… HELP!

Hi there,

My 16 month old still feeds to sleep. At night this isn’t much of a problem as I can usually transfer her into her cot and she mostly sleeps through (or at worst we have one wake up where I can quickly BF her back to sleep). However day time naps are another story…

In the day, she’ll only sleep next to me or in the pram/car if we want her to do a long nap and not be cranky. If I try to feed her to sleep and transfer as I do at night time she’ll usually wake after 40-50 minutes and be really upset. She’s at nursery 3 days a week and has started to nap better there and can do almost 2 hours with a bit of gentle patting to resettle her, but it’s impossible to do this at home! We have black out blinds and a sound machine for both day and night but that doesn’t seem to make a difference…

So with new year looming I think I’ve been inspired to make some changes. Anyone also been through this process?? I’d love to help teach her how to settle herself a bit more but as with many other mum’s don’t know if I can handle too much crying!

I’m kind of torn as to whether to stop BFing as well. As much as I love it, I would love her to be able to start going down a bit more independently and not having to be fed to sleep. I’d also love for her dad/grandparents to be able to do more of the bedtime routine to give me a bit of a break. I just worry that while I’m still BFing it’s going to be harder to break that connection of feeding to sleep. Any advice?

Thanks!
