Leave baby in cot or pick up - 4 month regression

First time mum looking for advice. DS is almost 4 months. He goes to bed at 10pm and gets up around 7/8am. He was sleeping right through except looking for his dummy to be put back in a few times during that time.

I think he's going through sleep regression now as last 5 nights he's been awake half the night chatting away to himself, smiling, laughing, waving his arms and legs about. Generally just having a right carry on and making noise. He's still not looking for a bottle until the morning and he's not crying.

I've just left him lying in his cot. He sometimes falls back asleep himself, other times I need to put dummy in. If that doesn't work I've been putting my hand on his chest/tummy and this seems to settle him to sleep.

I feel like I'm awake half the night doing this then I can't fall back asleep properly.

Would people continue doing this or pick him up to resettle him?

I could probably resettle him quicker by picking him up but I don't want to get into a routine of being up during the night.

Have you ever given him a feed on waking?

@OnlyFoolsnMothers DH got up at 5 one of the nights and gave him a bottle. He only took 2 ounces then stayed awake
