Had Enough!!

Ds 10 months. Just been put into his own room as his room was being used as dh office. For the last 2 months sleep at night has gone to shit and I just can't do it anymore. Around 3am wakes up screaming and won't go back to sleep. Both dh and I are absolutely shattered. He will sleep if taken into our bed but that has only happened twice as we just needed some sleep. He naps twice both around an hour goes to bed at 9pm. He eats well and takes 3 8oz bottles.

His nursery doesn't stick to his routine at all and I'm getting really fed up with that too. They put him down for 1 nap usually no more than 2hrs but by the time we go to pick him up he's falling asleep eating dinner at 6pm.

Seriously in need of help!!

What time does lo wake in morning? As 9pm is quite late (not judging) if only sleeping 2 hours in day that's a long wake time. If lo was sleeping like 4hours in day I would say 9pm is fine.

8 months old my lo was doing approx as tbh it kind of all merges into mush.
930/45am sleep. 11am awake.
2pm to 330/4pm sleep
7/730pm bed
Woke anytime from 615am till 7am on those lucky days.

Is lo overtired?

He can wake anytime between 7 and 8.30. He's absolutely shattered tonight.

His home routine is usually.

8 wake
8.30 breakfast
10 bottle
10.30 nap
12 lunch
3.15 bottle
3.30 nap
6 dinner
8.30 bottle
9 sleep

I'm no expert, but do a lot of mn 😂 , your morning looks good.
from 1130 till 330pm is a long time that's roughly 4 hours give or take.
Then from 430pm till 9pm that's 4.5hours. I think maybe the 234 routine may benefit you here....

You know your lo better then me, but that seems alot of awake time between naps.

Personally I would tell nursery that's your sleep routine and that's how you want it. Most babies don't drop to 1 nap until 1 year old if not older. I know some babies drop early but 8 months is a bit young, having said that I seen on mn that some 8 month old have dropped to one nap. But that's rare.

I would go with your lo is overtired personally.

With feeds my lo did
730am breakfast
830/9 bottle
930 nap wake 11am
12.15pm lunch
130pm bottle (encourage a longer afternoon nap some people do after nap)
2pm asleep.
330/4 awake
5/515pm dinner
630/645pm bottle
7/730pm rest of bottle.

My lo was always asleep by 8. Never longer then 4 hours, still at 9.5 months old she can't quite manage 4 hours unless we have to.... She gets a bit overtired.

The 234 is guidance. My lo does more 2.75/3hrs before morning nap. 3.15 for next nap then 3.5 hours we put her down for bed - asleep by 4 hours awake time

Thank you!

I think I defo need to change his routine a bit. I've tried to get him down for 230 but he just won't go down. I usually walk to go pick up eldest ds from school in the hope that helps but it doesn't.

Your welcome. I would definitely adjust lo routine. Personally I'm mean. If my lo isn't awake my 7/730 I wake her. Then keeps naps in sync.

Fancyties · 18/12/2021 06:53

I just seen lo is 10 months old 🤦🏼‍♀️ call it sleep deprived due to teething. Though the same principle applies 234 approx. I would still wake lo at 7/730.next nap 930/10. Which in turn brings next nap earlier. 1 till 3 bed 7pm. Have a tinker and see what happens.

RaginaPhalange · 18/12/2021 08:54

He had a better sleep last night when down just after 8.30 and woke at almost 8. Though we did have a few night time wake ups but he has a bad cough so don't think that's helping either.

Sounds like a really tough time with the night sleep. I feel like we finally got into a good routine at 9/10mo after having a tough time with sleep.
Sounds like your day is a bit long and he is overtired. I would not keep him awake for more than about 4-4.5 hrs at this age.
We used to do:

6.30am Wake for 2.5hrs
9am Nap for about an hr
Wake for 3 - 3.5hrs
1/1.30pm Nap for 1.5hrs
Wake for 4hrs

For the afternoon nap I always woke him no later than 3.30pm for a 7.30pm bedtime.

As he gets older shorten the first one and gradually lengthen the wake window at the end of the day and you should end up on the nursery routine.

We are 16 months and I'm just trying to get him on 1 Nap. We have the same trouble with nursery where they only do one nap. He is a wreck and sometimes falls asleep there at 10.30am then wont go down at 12.30 for their big nap 🙄 if he wakes before 6am I have resorted to giving him a 15min nap at home at 9am then taking him in. On nursery days he usually goes to bed at 6.30pm.

If you can, I would search for a child minder or some kind of alternative setting that will give him a morning nap as he is likely to need 2 naps for another 4- 5 months. I wish I had prioritised this more with my son as he has been in nursery since he was 1 and it is always a rough 3 days.

Good luck xx
