My 5.5mo has always seemed to struggle so so much to switch off for naps and bed.

We are very consistent with routine, pre-nap and pre-bedtime but he will FIGHT sleep and it’s getting worse not better. We have always had to rock and shh him to sleep, I’ve tried so hard to put him down awake and he screams hysterically if I do.

What he does while rocking:
-Bites hand / my collarbone / shoulder frantically and cries
-Wriggles around and sometimes headbutts me in the process
-Scratches my neck and face

I then have to persist until he finally falls asleep which can take anywhere between 5 - 30 mins. He cries/moans during the whole process. Then I can put him down. And the worst part is that he naps for 25 mins meaning I do this 4 x for naps and once for bedtime.

I’ve been crying while rocking him as he hurts me and I’m just so exhausted of the process! :’(

Tried so many things ie different nap timings, putting down and shushing, not rocking - nothing helps!!! :(. And I don’t think it’s teething as it’s every single nap and bedtime and he often doesn’t have teething symptoms. Won’t take a dummy!

I would put him in his bed (dark, white noise), leave go back in after a minute if he's crying and shush, soothe. Leave for two minutes, go back in etc. Don't pick him up. And stick with it until he's asleep.

That's not for everyone, but it will work.
