2 year old and naps

How long a nap does a 2 year old need.
My DS definitely still needs one and usually goes down about 2-2:30 but he’s been taking a bit longe to settle at night the last few days.
He doesn’t nap when he’s at nursery(2 days a week) because there is too much going on but he is shattered by 5pm so it’s a struggle to keep him awake sometimes on the way home.
So the days he’s at home he does benefit from the nap. Should I be cutting it down to an hour max?! He’ll go 2 hours plus and sometimes is really hard to wake up even after that time and really cranky like he’s still tired. It feels mean to wake him if he’s still really sleepy but I don’t want him up at 9pm either.

My daughter was the same, I started to wake her after an hour which was fine, she is happy even after 20 mins in the car tbf.
I’m gutted as she won’t nap till nearly 4pm now which is just too late so I’ve had to cut them altogether :(
I think all kids are different, some kids nap till they are 3+ but some just stop needing them at 2, my friends little boy is the same.

What time do you put him to bed? If he’s getting 11-14 hours of sleep per day and he’s better with a nap then it doesn’t really matter if he sleeps a bit later. For example DS needs a 2 hour nap after lunch but will sleep at 9 and wake at 7 and that seems to work best for him.

His bedtime is about 8pm and has been ever since he was really small. He wakes anywhere from about 7am till 7:45.
