11 month old standing in cot

I'm at a bit of a loss at the moment and keen to hear how others dealt with this if they experienced it too. My son wakes around 4 times during the course of his night time sleep (normally goes to sleep between 630-7 and wakes for the day at around 6). Most times when he wakes up he immediately crawls to the bars of his crib and then stands up and cries. He will continue to cry until he is picked up and resettled back to sleep (either by holding or by feeding) if we just lie him back down then he immediately stands back up again. When he is first put to sleep he is as close to the 'drowsy but awake' state as I can make him and I can see on the baby monitor that he usually has his eyes open for the first few minutes of being in bed (which convinces me that he does know how to get to sleep on his own).

For context, my son is nearly 11 months old, breastfed (if that matters), eats really well during the day, is on 2 naps a day and generally has a very sunny personality.

He's been doing this for about 3 months now so it surely can't be that he's excited about knowing how to stand? During the day he can stand up and get back down again so I don't think it's that he is stuck. What can I do to help him? I was very much in the ride-it-out-its-just-a-phase camp, but this has been going on much longer than any other phase so I'm wondering if there's anything I can do for him?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
