4 month old rolling onto side

Hi all, looking for some advise. My little girl was 4 months old last week. Last night she started to roll onto her side in her sleep, if I tried to move her to her back she would just roll back over to her side again.

Lullaby trust says that babies should be put down to sleep on their back however once they are able to roll from their front to their back and vice versa it is safe for them to choose their own sleeping positions. My LO cannot roll from her front to her back yet or from her back in to her front yet, she is almost there but hasn’t managed it yet. She has really good head control for her age and can hold her head up on tummy time for 10-15 minutes at a time (probably longer if I let her)

I am really worried about her sleeping now because it also states that the most common age for SIDS is between 2-4 months!

Anyone else experience this and how did you cope? I am not sure I will be able to sleep until she is able to safely roll over now 😔

My mind keeps flipping between “i am being too anxious” and “it’s not worth the risk”

Any help would be appreciated

DD slept on her side regularly from as soon as she could roll over, we couldn't stop her either! We just followed all the other guidelines (blankets/pillows/bumpers/sleeping bags/temperature etc) and she was fine.

We had the same, an early head holder and an early roller/crawler and walker.

If she used to be on her side when I was awake I'd flip her onto her back, and same if I woke in the night, but otherwise I'd just leave her generally and flip her when I could

I've just found a picture of her asleep at a week shy of 4 months lying on her side Smile

If she is getting into that position by herself, its fine :) it isn't safe to put anything in the cot to try and stop her rolling on to her side so there isn't really anything you can do except put her down on her back and make sure the cot is clear of all other items, no loose blankets, cuddly toys, bumpers etc.

Same as above though, we followed safe sleeping. Used the correct tog sleeping bag (wouldn't and still don't use blankets as she is so mobile and wriggly) , nothing in the cot with her, new and well fitted mattress, etc

As everyone else, my lo used to do this. I moved a few times, if I woke in night. But generally just left her. Made sure I always put her in bed on her back as per guidance and arms weren't swaddled. Sleeping bag is probably better. No blankets etc behind lo at all.

Thank you everyone! It's just so confusing as a new parent not knowing what to do?

Yep! My 3 month old has rolling onto her side to sleep since birth, I think the forceps bruised the back of her head so it hurt too much to lie on her back. It's better now, but she'll still turn her head. I asked numerous midwives and my HV about it and they told me not to worry, but for ages I honestly thought it was the worst thing ever.
