I’m trying out this method on my 17 month old . I’ve been sitting next to his cot as he cries and avoiding eye contact then once settled I shush him and patt him through the cot rails then he falls asleep instantly . This has happened twice so far and I’m on night one . Am I doing this right ? Is the shushing and the parting supposed to put him to sleep ? Or is he supposed to fall asleep independently on night one . I’m just glad he finally is falling asleep in his cot regardless but I don’t want to make this process even longer than it should be by not doing it right
