Is this a night terror?

DS1 (3.0) was asleep an hour or so ago when he suddenly started shouting and coughing. He was shouting for me but when I went in to stroke his head he pushed me off. His eyes were open but he didn't answer when I spoke to him. He kept coughing and shouting and wailing for about 5 mins and then went back to sleep. I was worried he might be feverish but he didn't feel hot. Is this a night terror? It hasn't happened before

sounds like it to me. my ds has done this very occasionally from when he was 2. Sounds like you did the right thing, waking them up by picking them up is the worst thing you can do apparently.

its frightening for you but really good that he dealt with it himself.

not much clinical advice here but bumping for you.

it could be, but my experience with ds was off them going on much longer and he was uncontrolably hysterical. it migh be that he had a nighmare and wasn't fully awake, which is a different thing i think. hope it's just a one off
