3 year olds nap

My nearly 3 year old has always been a fantastic sleeper (we know how lucky we are). He still naps and can go for 2-3hours. Then its bed at 7.30ish. He used to wake 6.30/7am, but the past few weeks he has been waking as early as 5.
I dont think he is ready to cut the nap completely, but should we be making it shorter?
I have always been of the opinion that if he's sleeping then he obviously needs it, so leave him be. But perhaps now he is sleeping too much in the day?!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I'd cap to 2h initially.

You could also consider pushing bedtime later.

DS was the same, could nap, if left for 2-3 hours, wouldn't affect bedtime but was waking earlier so yes we started shortening his daytime nap. It took a few months but then he started dropping the nap & now sleeps 7.30pm-7am most nights.

@APurpleSquirrel how did you reduce it? Eg, 30mins less every week.

I think we did incrementally; so 5-10mins less every few days.

We did ended up with a grumpy toddler who wanted to sleep more, but eventually it seemed to click that he needed to sleep more at night & eventually dropped the afternoon nap.
Though he's currently asleep in the car after a busy morning today & he's nearly 3 & half but this happens rarely now.
