Short naps - rocking

Hi

So my 7 month old is really good at sleeping - sleeps at night for 12ish hours and goes down independently- currently he falls asleep for his afternoon nap but wakes after 30 minutes if I go in straight away and rock him he falls easily asleep again and naps on me for another hour - so he’s obviously still tired.

I’m just wondering how to get him to extend this nap in his crib - his morning nap is around an hour/hour 15 and he does that in the crib on his own.

Does anyone have any tips for helping to extend his second nap in the crib - I don’t mind the odd contact nap but I just want to make sure that he can take this nap without me eg at nursery/grandparents/I’m not there for whatever reason etc

We used Ferber for his night time sleep and his naps used to be really long but went short when he dropped from 3-2 so I know he can sleep independently

Thanks!

You could try and put him in a bouncy chair / push chair so you can bounce / rock in those when he stirs after 30 mins if you want to help him to learn to extend naps independent of you.

To extend my 8 month old naps in cot, I usually go in. Pop her on her side rub her back and gently hold her head. Then when she's calm usually a minute I put my hand in between bars and rest on her body part usually her bum and sometimes taps. Depends on her whinges/cry tbh what I do.

If we're having a nap in buggy I pop my hand on her chest and do occasional tap of dummy x
