Night Feeds

Hi, My DS (7 weeks) seems to be waking at 4am most evenings but only taking 1/2oz before falling back to sleep? Does this sound like habitual waking as opposed needing a feed, I was under the impression most babies drop the first night feed (currently about 1am for us) before the second, however has anyone had it this way around. Baby generally drops off to sleep around 8or9 after a feed.

Guess the question is should we try and not offer the bottle and see if we can coax back to sleep.

Do what ever is easiest for you all to maximise sleep.

Make it easier as possible - is lo cold? Maybe why 4am waking? I would do what ever is easiest tbh. Maximise sleep as pp said. That's pretty good sleep for that age.

If you can get baby back to sleep without feeding, definately do that. If you can't, assume baby needs the feed.

So.... baby has silent reflux and potentially CMPA, he is not the biggest feeder taking around 20oz a day, as such think night feeds are here to stay for a while, which is fine.

I have tried dream feeds for past 10 days not a great success. DS seems to fall asleep at around 8 after a feed and then sleeps till about 11:30/12. Ideally would like for that first feed to be a bit later, as such was wondering about waking at 10ish for a feed before bed. Thoughts/suggestions?

Hi OP,

We have a 7 week old baby girl. We now introduced a little routine so about 7pm she gets a bath, then a bottle and it’s down to sleep between 8-8:30pm then we dream feed her - as much as she takes, no matter whether it’s 30ml or 100ml. She then wakes up at 2-2:30 for a full feed. Try for the last feed to be in calm environment without any stimulation, they get overstimulated very easily, so dim lights etc 😊 good luck x

Mine is 10 weeks old now. Bath and feed at 6, then bed. Dream feed at 10, then wakes at 7am and feed again at 8 (he doesn't want it at 7). He used to wake at 4 for a feed but then started just taking an oz or so, so we just gave him a dummy and a cuddle for a few nights, and now he sleeps through (mostly 🤦🏻)
