Hope someone can shed some light on what has changed recently, my dd almost 18 mths is in a good bedtime routine and I have been able to put her into her cot and leave her to fall asleep for several months now, BUT the last 3 nights she has gone into her cot as usual but within minutes is up screaming and crying and when I have gone into her she is putting her arms up to be picked up out of the cot??

She has never done this before and I cant think of anything that has changed to upset her routine or anything, it is taking a long time to settle her and she is finally falling asleep exhausted I think from getting herself in such a state!!!

Hi,
My DS - similar age- has just gone through the exact thing. No idea why. Just suddenly started screaming at bed time. We have given in loads and cuddled him, put him down again etc. ALso a few nights when he got himself into a proper state, and I just had to bring him through to the lounge and cuddle him. It lasted about 10 days and he is now back to himself, very easy to put down. I dont know if he was just suddenly needing reassurance that we are there for him, or if it was teething etc.
They just have phases I guess. Just try and remain calm, and talk to her in a soothing voice even when she is freaking out.
I am sure she will do the same and return to her old ways!
Good luck

My DT newphews are 2.5 and I know that over the last 12 months they have started having nightmares. Could this be it? Does she have a night light or anything?
Hope she is ok soon.x

Thanks everyone, at least she isnt the only one so it looks like it is some sort of phase! We did resort to taking her out of the cot on the first night as we thought something was wrong but the last 2 nights we have persevered keeping her in the cot and settling her so hope it wont take long to get her back to her usual self!!

Is she being a bit more clingy generally? DS went through a similar phase when he was separating from me very reluctantly (what fun at CM drop off!) and was also clingy at night. I just spent a lot more time having cuddles and reading stories than normal - it did pass.
