How old was your child when they dropped their last nap?

My DS was 2 in August and at the moment it seems like he could maybe drop his nap. I think there's been a few days at nursery he hasn't napped which isn't like him and he has seemed exhausted when he's home although gets a second wind and wakes up again...
Today we drove around for a while absolutely sure he was needing a nap but actually maybe he didn't.

Not sure!

So tell me when your toddler gave up their last nap. Google says between 3 and 5 but that seems late to me?!

@Amammai

Starting regularly dropping the nap around two. Went through phases over the next few months of napping/not napping. The best was napping at home three days a week but not at childcare. That worked well. At 2.5 we stopped encouraging them as he was a nightmare to get to sleep at night. Since then he’s only had very occasional danger nap in the car.
This is the road I think we might be going down. The reason I am posting tonight is cause it took bloody ages to get him to sleep tonight...9pm... Uft

@passionfruitpizza

18 months. On the plus side his bedtime was 430pm for a while.
4.30?! You beat me. I thought I was lucky our period of 5.30pm bedtime!!!!

DD1 (7) would still nap now if I let her 🤣 DD2 is 2.5 and still napping away. She will move into preschool around Easter time (after she turns 3) and will probably have to give it up shortly after that.

Just before his 2nd birthday. But he did used to sleep in until 9am so I didn’t mind so much

Notashandyta · 24/10/2021 21:53

First- just after 3

Second and third- around 2 and a half

Its a rough couple of months while they adjust! We found night sleep is much better tho, and a bit of an earlier bedtime is a plus

18 months, but she was in fast forward with everything 🥴

17 months.
She only ever did 30 min naps to
At 12 months we was down to 1 times 30 min nap 🤣

DockOTheBay · 25/10/2021 03:41

Mine was 3 but she certainly would have kept on longer if lockdown hadn't happened - she always used to sleep in the car.

Shes 4.5 now and still fails asleep if we drive for more than 20 mins or so in the afternoon.

Fallagain · 25/10/2021 03:49

Both not long after their second birthday

By 18 months we could force a nap every three or four days but it took an hour or so of driving/walking in a buggy. She only ever napped for 28 minutes in her entire napping career. 20 months was the last proper nap she ever took.

She was much happier when we stopped the daily nap battle, and started sleeping 12 hours a night.

DD2 is heading down the nap hating route too, but sadly is only 11 weeks so is foul if I don’t force enough half hour stretches a day. Weirdly she only does 28 minutes too….must be something about our genes 🤔

14 months, but bed at 6pm. We were all much happier once we stopped fighting. Some people are just not nappers. Good luck, OP.
