My 6 months use to sleep so well at night, from 10pm till 6am. For the last 3 weeks he has been waking up at midnight, 3am, 4am and last two nights almost every hour. Not hungry or nappies just want cuddles. I've done the self soothing but he doesn't want none of it.

I was wondering trying lavender spray on his cot or a humidifier. Has anyone else tried this? If so did it work?

Could he be a bit cold? The temperature has definitely dropped where we are.

FATEdestiny · 22/10/2021 17:20

What is baby's daytime sleep/feed routine?

It's likely that your daytime routine needs tweaking a bit. Where does baby nap and how do you get him to sleep?

SteakChips · 22/10/2021 17:57

@PanicBuyingSprouts I thought that yesterday, as his hands felt cold but the temp was 20degrees and he was in a sleep suit and a 2.5 tog sleep bag. After him being on me I then put him back in cot with a light blanket

@FATEdestiny he has never been great at sleeping during the day, since birth it was 30min if I'm lucky for a couple of hours. He feeds on bottle 210ml every 4 hours and inbetween that we have started on purée food.

@FATEdestiny he will nap in his cot, which is in our room. During the day the curtain isn't pull as I wanted him to know the difference between day and night. Sometimes if he really tired he will wake then fall asleep on me till he wakes.

Has starting food coincided with more wakings?

bloodywhitecat · 22/10/2021 18:16

Is he teething?

CocaColaTruck1 · 22/10/2021 18:18

Any new developments?

SteakChips · 22/10/2021 19:28

@PanicBuyingSprouts no he was doing this before we started the purée
@bloodywhitecat he has been teething since he was 3months.
@CocaColaTruck1 only rolling over but doesn't do it in his sleep but was sleeping well when he stared it.

PanicBuyingSprouts no he was doing this before we started the purée.

Right so it might not be that then.

Instead of a lavender spray. Have you tried sleeping with his bedding for a couple of nights do that his cot smells of you? I think we underestimate sometimes how much smell figures in a baby's world.

Thissucksmonkeynuts · 22/10/2021 20:55

Is he crawling? My dc's sleep went to pot when they were getting ready to crawl about this age.

FATEdestiny · 22/10/2021 20:58

This doesn't tell me much about his sleep routine. He may be very over tired.

A decent approximate for a sleep routine is however long baby sleeps for, awake time is around double. So if you get 30 minute naps, your awake times between naps wants to be about an hour.

blairresignationjam · 22/10/2021 21:13

I wouldn't put lavender anywhere near his sleep space.
Babies sleep cycles change - from newborns who instinctively know how to sleep - to slightly older babies who need to be taught how to self settle in order to move between sleep cycles. Waking every hour after midnight (as sleep pressure wanes) is a classic sign he does not know how to connect his sleep cycles / self settle.
His day time naps should be started to lengthen also. Expecting him to nap during the day without darkening the room is a big ask. There is a big difference in babies grabbing 40 winks anywhere they can and having a good, long undisturbed sleep, in a dark destimulating space.

SteakChips · 22/10/2021 22:04

@blairresignationjam he knows his sleep pattern. He has never slept well during the day but night time from 2/3 months he has been sleeping well during the night, from 10pm till 6am straight. The odd wake where he wants dummy and then he settles himself back to sleep. This is new waking up through the night where yesterday was almost every hour. Like now he is asleep. He starts yawning, rubbing eyes and I taken to his cot. Cuddle him till he falls asleep.
