Poorly baby won't sleep - help!

DD is 9 months and has her first cold. It doesn't seem terrible - a bit of a runny nose (clear snot, still able to breathe through it), the odd little cough or sneeze, no temperature. She's fine in herself when up and about, but her sleep has gone completely to pot and I think she's got herself in a cycle of over tiredness.

Last night she didnt really sleep properly after 1am, just the odd snatch of 30-45 mins until 5.30am when I gave in and got her up for the day. Today she's only had two naps of 20 mins each - normally she has a morning nap of 30mins-1hr and an afternoon nap of 1-2hrs. I can tell she's really tired and I've tried so many times today to put her down for a nap, but she gets really distressed every time. If I try and hold her she just wriggles and fusses. She doesn't really like co-sleeping. I don't know how to help her get out of this cycle! We're both shattered, I can't face another night like last night. She's already dosed up with Calpol. Any other suggestions?

Have you got a calpol vapour plug in? They can help a bit with the congestion. If it’s any consolation, with the few colds we have had, the first night has been the worst and she’s bounced back quickly. Hope that’s the case for you too and you have a better night tonight x

Yes I got one today and it's plugged in now. I'm not even sure she's that congested though. I've been trying to get her to sleep for half an hour now and she's in such distress, poor thing. I don't know if there's something else going on or if it's just over tiredness. It's horrible to see though 🙁

Would she go off in the car or buggy in the day as a way of addressing the sleep deficit? After that, I second the Calpol plug in, plus Snufflebabe and Saline drops. I’m a primary teacher so my poor DD1 caught everything going through me - it does get better, she’s 2.10 now and has an immune system of steel!
