Is this enough sleep?

My 4 week old yesterday slept about 15hours. Is this good??

We follow a cycle and when it comes to naps, he naps for roughly 3h and sleep at night we sometimes get 3.5-4hour stretches. Thanks x

A better question is famed to ask how long baby is awake in one go. That tends to be more important than total amount if sleep.

More than 3h awake without any sleep would be a concern.

Hi, I think you have misunderstood my original post.

He is NEVER awake for 3hours.
He wakes, I give him a full feed and he is then put back in his crib awake until he falls asleep himself.

Out of the 24h period, he slept for roughly 15 hours. I wasn't implying he was awake for a period of 15 hours.

I will try and rephrase - he has maybe 3-4 naps throughout the day consisting of 3h each time and then 3.5-4hour stretches of sleep through the night (he gets me up twice for feeds) so he sleeps 6-8hours. Is this good sleep for a 4 week old :))

I don't think they did misunderstand you. How long are they awake in one go, you still haven't said. Only that it's not more than 3 hrs.

I'm not picking just clarification. As you say lo slept 15 hours in 24 hours. That means means 9 hours awake through these 24 hours? While sleeping 3.5 to 4 hours in one time....

At 7 months my baby's sleeps 3.45 in day. Then 10 to 11 at night. That's 14 to 15... She has 9 hours awake time. I may be wrong but think 4 week olds meant to sleep a bit more then that.

Sorry need to clarify it a little bit please. Lay out a rough day for everyone then can help a bit more.

Do you not play with him in the daytime between naps?

I’m also really confused about how your day is and how long baby is awake for. But off the top of my head, as I’d say it’s not a lot and I’d expect 15 hours asleep versus 9 hours awake to be the norm for a baby around 6 months.

I wish my 3 month old would sleep how much they recommend on line

My first never did either and she is fine 🙈🤷‍♀️

@SophSab

I understood what you meant. It's just that saying 15h sleep in 24h is a good amount of sleep or a bad amount of sleep is too vague to be useful. It depends on awake time.

For example:
7pm-11pm sleep
(0.5h awake)
11.30-3.30am sleep
(0.5h awake)
4am-7am sleep
(4h awake)
11am-3pm sleep
(4h awake)
7pm sleep

^This would be 15h in 24h but the two 4h awake times make this a concern and not enough sleep. Or

7pm-11pm sleep
(1h awake)
12-4am sleep
(1h awake)
5am-9am sleep
(5h awake)
2pm-3.30pm sleep
(1h awake)
4.30pm-6pm sleep
(1h awake)
7pm sleep

^This would be 15h in 24h but the 5h awake time make this a concern and not enough sleep. Or

8pm-11pm sleep
(1h awake)
12-3am sleep
(1h awake)
4am-7am sleep
(1h awake)
8-9am sleep
(1h awake)
10-11am sleep
(1h awake)
12-1pm sleep
(1h awake)
2-3pm sleep
(1h awake)
4-5pm sleep
(1h awake)
6-7pm sleep
(1h awake)
8pm sleep

^This would be 15h in 24h. Awake times at 1h throughout make it great sleep.

@fatedestiny wow go you for writing that out 😂 I couldn't begin to think about that but knew something was adding up 🤔🤔🤔 with 9 hours awake time
