Straining/grunting baby when lay down on back

My baby is 4 weeks old and was having a few sleeps on his back quite well.

Recently he has begun to do lots of straining/grunting now when o lay him in his crib, but will stop and sleep fine in my arms!
Any ideas???

Reflux

Do you think so?? He doesn't really get much sick or milk coming back up?

It could be? Have you looked into it?

Not necessarily reflux, just an age thing. My baby did this for weeks. It was really loud and sounded horrendously uncomfortable but eventually she slept through it and then grew out of it (by 6 weeks she was sleeping for 6-8 hours a night but some of that would be very grunty).

Keep baby upright for at least 15-20 mins after a feed. Extra burping (i could only burp mine if she was high on my shoulder with her legs tucked completely underneath her). But please don't rush out for medication unless they are showing other signs of distress.

It's also quite normal for them to be better settled with you but nobody on here can give you medical advice.

Have you spoken to your health visitor about it?

We tend to get some good burps to that's a positive, I will try to hold him upright for a bit longer before I put him back down, he does settle in between the strains and grunts and then gets set off again, I just feel bad for him that he can't seem to get comfy! But obviously holding him all night long isn't ideal, yet here I am... Grin

I thought something wrong with my little girl who grunted etc, turns out she was trying to self settle! She ended up sleeping through the night from 5 weeks. One night I stayed up all night every time she grunted and strained I picked her up. The next night I just left her to see what would happen and she grunted and settled herself to sleep ! Xx
