Am I setting myself up for problems in the future?

My DS is only 6 weeks old so it is maybe too early to worry about this but thought I would ask anyway. He rarely falls asleep by himself. He is either with me or my DH, in his sling or pram or uses a dummy or the boob. Am I setting myself up for problems in the future by not trying to get him to fall asleep alone? At the moment I am so happy when he goes to sleep that I would do anything to help him!

I'm no expert as have only the one dd, but from what I've read on here it seems to vary a lot - some los make the transition to falling asleep on their own naturally, others don't. My dd was one of the latter group and it took an awful lot of hard work (pickup/put down ad infinitum) to change her habits. However she was four months old when we did it and at that stage I was far better able to cope physically and emotionally than I would have been when she was tiny. Also, the hard work was repaid as she is now a fantastic sleeper. So I wouldn't worry too much as long as what you're doing is working for you at the moment. HTH

It is only a very short time since your ds was in the womb, never cold, hungry or lonely! I think you are doing the right thing at the moment so don't worry about the future and just enjoy the lovely closeness you have! I believe it is impossible to spoil a baby, just go with your instincts.

Thanks. It isn't too much hassle anyway. The only exception is the dummy which he can't always hold onto so I have to keep plugging it back in but it gets him to sleep.
