4mo won't nap!

This is a super basic question, but how do you put a 4 month old down for a nap?!

I have tried to put her down in the next to me, I tried feeding to sleep - she sucked for an hour sort of dozing and then fully woke up.
She won't take a dummy.
Rocking doesn't work unless in the bassinet and I don't want to keep doing that as she is growing out of it.

She woke around 8.30 this morning, and I started trying to put her down around 11am. It's 12.30 now and she is still awake.

That hour of dozily sucking counts as the sleep.....

Take her for a walk in the pram.

I think you're putting her down a bit too late, I've found success with keeping short wake windows as when my 3 month is tired he refuses to be put down and only sleeps briefly. Try putting her down a bit earlier Smile

@Harrysmummy246 good to know! I did wonder...

@glampingcamper even then she will
Only sleep for 40mins, and I can't go out for every nap

I really found this hard with ds at this age. He’s eight months now and so much better without me doing anything so honestly don’t worry.

I think naps are so stressful because it’s your chance to recharge a bit. When ds was very little I could just never get him to go down and it did make me a bit fed up sometimes.

If I remember correctly ds started napping not on me at five months so I’d possibly try again then. Good luck Flowers

40 minutes is a really typical nap length at that age.

If she wakes at 8.30am I would get her in the pram and out for a walk by 10am.
Second nap around 1pm, 3rd at 4pm. She might need another catnap later to get through to bedtime depending on when that is.
If you don't want to take her out for every nap then try putting the pram in your hallway and rocking it, or holding her for some naps. If you have a sling that will give you hands free.
