Could it be the cot?

Hello all,

First time mummy here to a beautiful baby girl.

My baby doesn't sleep great at night and hates being put down in her cot. She often wakes shortly after being put down or wakes as she being put down and starts crying straight away (so I pick her up and give her a cuddle and settle her down). The cot itself is the breathable one by purflo which I loved as DD tends to stick her face up against the sides (despite me putting her in the middle!) and as the walls of the cot are net then it takes the worry away.
However when I'm downstairs in the day, I tend to put her in the (dettached) pram bassinet (approved for sleeping) and she sleeps really well. I've been putting it down to confusion between night and day but I'm starting to wonder if it's the cot? The purflo is much bigger than the bassinet and perhaps the net sides are a bit scary for her?
Has anyone else had a similar problem and ended up changing the cot?
Also does anyone have any tips for babies who put their face against the sides of the cot?

Thanks for reading,

Xx

I'm afraid she just sounds like a tiny baby - they generally don't like being put down, and take a while to work out day and night!

I wouldn't bother changing the cot.

But when DD was tiny I did have slightly more success putting her widthways across the NextToMe rather than along it, which I think made it seem less enormous for her.

Totally normal in my experience. DS didn't use his next to me crib for the first month or so. He also used to shove his face up against the side - apart from occasionally freaking me out in the night, I didn't worry too much about it.

She's brand new, and wants to be snuggled and cosy.

Try her in the bassinet overnight.

That's a good idea! Thanks for normalizing too, was starting to worry that it's just me! X

We used a swaddle, think it made DD feel more secure

Definitely not just you/your baby.
They spent 9 months tucked up inside you so a big flat cot mattress is quite what they’re used to.

It’ll come in time 😀
