20 month old taking ages to fall asleep!

Needing some advice my 20 month old DS is taking over an hour and a half to fall asleep at night.
Once he is asleep he sleeps all night.
He goes to bed at 8pm. He used to sleep till about 7:30am but because he is taking so long to fall asleep he now wakes up about 8:30 -9:00am.
He has a nap during the day which i have cut down to about 90 minutes and it’s made no difference.
It also doesn’t matter if he’s been at nursery all day and is shattered he just won’t fall asleep.
We haven’t changed our bedtime routine. He gets a bath, cuddle, story and put in his cot awake. He would then fall asleep within about 20 minutes.
Tonight he went to bed at 8 and he’s just lying there, he’s not crying, he’s not messing about he’s just lying down but he is awake!
It took ages for us to get him to settle to sleep on his own so ideally I don’t want to go back to settling him but what else can I do!!!

He used to sleep 8pm - 7.30am (11.5h)

Now he sleeps 9.30pm - 9.00am (11.5h)

That suggests to me he can't sleep at bedtime because he got up earlier. His whole body clock had shifted, rather than changed to something different.

If you want him up at 7.30am, set an alarm and get him up. Do this every day, 7 days a week, for about 3 weeks to form a new habit.

... because he got up later... (not earlier)
