Toddler naps

I've noticed a pattern occurring with my 22 month olds naps and wondered if anyone has any advice.
He usually goes down a for a nap between 1-2pm for around 1hr-1.5hrs, he normally settles really well and asleep within 10 mins.

This all goes out of the window when we have been out for the morning, for example today we went out at 10am and back by 12:30. Most of the time was spent in his pram. I then put him down for a nap at 1:30 and he has refused to sleep. All the signs are there that he wants to sleep, the usual noises he makes and irritability but he refuses. This situation has happened so many times, then ends up in a very irritable toddler by late afternoon.

Is it just a case of he hasn't burnt enough energy by sitting in his pram whereas at home he'd be running around playing?

Sorry to tell you this but mine stopped napping about that age. You may find that you don’t get your afternoons free any more!

No it's not that, he naps fine any other time than when we have been out in the morning. He is my second baby so I know what's to come!

Yeah I'd guess because he's been in the pram.
Does he get out to walk?
Does he have his lunch when he's out or back at home?
It is also very hot today so that won't be helping!
