Help! Baby has just turned 3 months. Until 3 months he was self settling if his awake times was right. Cat napping, but that’s to be expected. All of a sudden he won’t self settle. The problem is he HATES being patted, rocked, cuddled, carried, the pram, the car and the carrier. So now my problem is I just can’t get him to sleep at all. He ends up hysterical, over tired and then has maybe 2 x 10-20 minute naps a day. He’s miserable all day every day. Any advice?

Dummy and bouncy chair would be my suggestion.

■ Dummy to independently comfort suck.
■ Bouncer for independent (ie not on you) movement

Park yourself in the sofa with bouncer at your feet. After around 44 mins awake time (to include a feed and wind) put baby in Bouncer with dummy and use your foot to bounce it.

Even tempo and be relentless about it. Just. Keep. Going. Reinsert dummy whenever required. Meanwhile you have the TV remote at your side an a cuppa, sit and relax while tapping your foot. Expect baby to be asleep again within 60 mins (ish) of last waking up.
