FTM - Newborn won't sleep until midnight

First post on Mumsnet after scrolling it for weeks during night feeds!

Our DD is 7 weeks and I am worried we are missing something or doing something wrong.

She cries and is unsettled from 8pm-11pm, then won't go to sleep until at least midnight.

She'll then wake for a feed at 3am, sleep 4am-7am and nap 8am-10am.

Most of my mum friends babies settle much earlier than this.

We do a bath around 7/8pm, baby massage, low lights and white noise etc and feed but she still won't go down! She naps well during the day so isn't overtired.

Should I accept that she's a night owl? Or try something else?

Totally normal in my experience - normally that’s when they want to cluster feed.

I used to express so DH could give him a bottle and I’d sleep from 8pm-1am and then swap with DH.

We moved DS’ bedtime back slowly - until he was about 4 months, he was going to bed when we did at 10/11 ish, then for a few weeks, I’d put him down between 8/9 and read in bed next to him.

Now at nearly 6 months, I put him down between 7-8 depending on his naps that day, and have the monitor downstairs.

Do your friends have older children? We’re FTP but found that our friends with toddlers or older children would put their babies down at the same time as their bed time.

Very normal. Babies of that age tend to cluster feed through that time and then not settle until much later. They don't have a night sleeping pattern until post 12 weeks or later.

Thank you! Do bottle fed babies cluster feed? She's on lactose free formula for a lactose intolerance.

Totally normal. Please don’t compare to other babies. They are all totally different.

7 weeks old and waking once between 12 and 7am! Stealth brag alert. That's amazing. You are really lucky. Mine was up every 30mins-1hr then. Enjoy those nice long stretches and don't worry about the bedtime, it'll move in time.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 26/06/2021 15:17

Normal. I have three and they all had a "wakey period" about 11am to 1amish. It wears off, don't worry.

GiantToadstool · 26/06/2021 15:18

Wow 1 wake is amazing! Stick with what you're doing if its working!

I miss evening tv with baby cuddles...

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 26/06/2021 15:18

Sorry 11 pm to 1 am

FTM here too… My daughter is 9 weeks and now goes to bed in her basket at 9pm. She sleeps until 3, feeds then back down at 4 and she normally sleeps until about 830/9. Not bragging but up until 2 weeks ago she was up ever 2 hours and we were both broken and took shifts ever night. We are lucky now, we have done bath, bottle, quiet time and bed for weeks now just to implement that routine and she’s really starting to get it now (well I think). It does get better….. says me, I’ll prob be on here for sleep advice in a few weeks 😂😂

Hi there! I am going through the EXACT same thing with my 7 week old. Can you please tell me how are things now and how you got through it?? 🥺
(writing this at 12:39am as my baby girl has been crying inconsolably since 11:45pm - this happens every single day without fail 😭)
