Baby does not nap in the day!!

Hey!
My baby sleeps through 10pm-7.30am most nights. She's 10 weeks old this week. She just WILL NOT sleep for more than 30 mins a go during the day unless she's on me/ in the car. Is this normal? Is it too early for sleep training? Thank you! X

It's not unusual for the age.

The important thing is to make sure baby is not awake for too long between naps, that avoids over tiredness. Generally awake window between naps wants to be double nap length, give or take 15 mins. So 30 mins naps mean 60 minutes awake.

As for independant naps (ie not on you), try something that moves - bouncy chair or pram. Put baby in there with a dummy for comfort sucking. Then keep relentless even tempo movement going.

Yes it's normal, and yes it's too early for sleep training. I think the recommendation is not before 6 months old.

Frankly I'm jealous at how well your baby is sleeping! Mine is 10 months and doesn't do longer than 30 mins solo for naps, and never slept longer than 5.5 hours overnight.

My LO would only nap on me for decent amounts of time until he was 3.5-4 months. I let him as it was the only way to get a good nap!

Now at 5mo he sleeps better in the pram for naps than on me.

It's a phase it'll pass.

My DS was like this until he was about 11m old. Would only ever sleep when being held or in the car. You really shouldn't sleep train before 6 months and even then, you may have to start all over again with each regression. It's amazing about the night sleep though Smile
