Toddler groaning in sleep (Catathrenia?)

Does anyone have any experience with this?

DS is 2 and has always been a noisy sleeper. The groaning has got worse after a recent cold.

It's often very loud and can go on for quite a while, several times a night. He sleeps on the floor below us and it frequently wakes us.

Do we need to take him to a doctor? Lots of material online says nothing can be done anyway. Does anyone have children who have grown out of it?

Thank you for reading.

I’ve no idea but dh does it and it drives me mad. I find kicking him hard amd saying “will you shut the fuck up” works but appreciate you might not want to do this with a 2yo! 😁.
