Sick baby - is this normal

Hello Everyone
This might seem like a stupid question but our 6 months old has just started nursery and in typical fashion she's been ill since. Nothing too crazy but major runny / stuffy nose, some little fever bouts... we do our best to keep her comfortable. Her starting nursery also coincides with her starting to turn over so the combination of the two makes for rubbish nights. She used to go to bed at 8 and sleep through to 7. Now she goes down at 8 but after much much crying and frequently wakes up. Sometimes she's inconsolable. I know a sick baby is a recipe for disaster but its been 2 weeks now so wondering if this is normal and what we can do?

It's quite normal for a poorly baby to need extra TLC for sleep, mire help than you would normally give.

Also not unusual for coughs and colds to last weeks and weeks on end. Especially when in school or nursery and catching all the bugs.

The first few months at nursery are utterly brutal when it comes to germs and little bugs.

We found the Calpol Vapour plug in really good when DD was congested (that and actual Calpol).

At 6mo could she also be teething?

Hi, just wanted to say my 10 month old has had about 6 weeks of constant colds (runny nose, cough etc) which he's picking up from nursery. As soon as he gets over one and he has a couple of days back to normal, another one strikes!

It definitely disturbs his sleep as well. Apart from coughing in the night he will wake up and let out random cry's and sometimes needs resettling.

Couple of things I have found help. The calpol plug in is good, but for his cough I bought the vicks humidifier (about £40) from Argos and honestly it's a game changer!

Hi @Sarahlouise86 we have the calpol plug . I think it helps but I can't be sure to be honest. Have you found the Vicks humidifier to help with stuffy/blocked noses? We literally just bought the calpol Plug but am willing to try anything

Expect constant bugs and colds for the first six months of nursery but after that they become more robust! And it's better than them being ill throughout reception.

Sterimar helps with stuffy noses (they do one for babies)

@EllaWt I'm 100% convinced the humidifier helps his coughing at night but that's easier to tell!

I do think the humidifier helps his congestion so he's not as bunged up and I don't hear his raspy breathing, but obviously still has a runny nose.
