Weaning/sleeping

I have just started to wean my little one. Since having good his sleep has changed massively. He won’t go to sleep on a night and wakes up every hour sobbing he doesn’t want feeding and I cuddle him in and comfort him and he eventually goes back off. Does this sound like sleep
Regression or could it be because we have introduced weaning ? Thanks

What often happens around weaning is that baby's calorie intake drops. So poor sleep is as a result of hunger.

The important thing to remember is that milk is by far the most calorie dense thing to get into baby, per minute. So if you are giving solids in place of milk feeds, baby will not be getting enough calories. Solid food should always be in addition to milk feeds, not in place of.

Indeed milk intake can sometimes go up post-weaning. It certainly needs to stay the same as pre-weaning and shouldn't be reducing until big portions and large variety of meals are offered (9 months plus?).

So the more obvious reason for these sleep issues is a reduction in milk intake throughout the daytime.

Hmm he’s still having the same amount of milk, we are slowly introducing foods to him after one of his bottles once a day as he’s got a cows milk allergy I wouldn’t say he is having any less bottles as we are told to monitor this

Your cows milk allergy could be very relevant here. He could be having digestion issues with the new foods being introduced. You have to be really careful with children who have allergies, because if he's got an intolerance to one food group he could have intolerances to others too.

We’ve found the exact same thing since starting weaning. Sleep had deteriorated anyway, but since starting weaning he’s up almost hourly and often settles just with a cuddle. I’m not sure if it’s just his gut getting used to things, but he’s having barely a teaspoon of solids each day because I’m so wary of causing him digestive issues, so definitely haven’t reduced milk intake
