Hi everyone,
Just a message to get some advice..
my ds has just turned 1, he has started crying ALOT. He doesn't want to do things that I want him too do, he has became so clingy, (which I love) but it can also feel so overwhelming at times. He sleeps from 7.30 - 7.30 through the night? I try not to put him for a nap through the day but he is getting so grumpy and tired I feel like he needs it.. advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you xx

He might need more sleep? My 17 month old usually sleeps 7 til 6 and has a nap 12-2, his older sister was similar at this age and only stopped having a nap after lunch when she was nearly 2 and a half.

A 12 month old is usually having 2 naps per day - around 3h-4h daytime sleep. Plus 10-12h at night.

Why are you trying to not put him down for a nap?

At one my daughter was still on two naps a day. She's never slept through the night though.

She's 17m and still having one nap a day. Couldn't imagine her not having a nap. She struggles as it is if we're an hour late for her nap.

She did get very clingy and cry more at 12m I seem to remember

Why don’t you want him to nap? My one year old naps twice a day. Occasionally sleeps through.

Definitely needs a nap.

My son became very clingy at 1, it was just a phase.

My DD just turned 1, sleeps 7:30-6:30 at night and has 2 naps a day ranging from 2-3 hours total. Sounds like he needs more sleep.

No naps at 12 months? Yikes! What is your reason for this? I thought they didn't drop the nap until almost 3/3?!?

sunandmoonBE · 21/05/2021 16:19

He still goes down for an hour but I was worried he would be getting too much sleep with him sleeping right through the night. I haven't seen health visitor and have no other mummies around me as I'm very rural and no mum and baby groups. It's nice to have somewhere to get advice from other mums and what they do with there babies 😊

Most children keep their lunchtime nap until around 3 years old, plus sleep all through the night.

So keep it going for a lot, lot longer. No need to limit the nap length either, many babies sleep for 2 or 3 hours in the daytime at this age.

My DD just turned 1. She sleeps through 7 to 7. Then she has a nap for an hour at 10 am. Next nap at 2pm for an hour. Then 4 hours until bedtime.
