Arms to moses basket for naps

My 10 week old has been napping in my arms but sleeps fine in his crib overnight. I've started to try to get him to nap in his moses basket but it isn't going well! Sometimes he will sleep in there but only for about 20mins. And every nap we have screaming now whereas he used to drift off fine - it's as if he knows he will be out down and is already protesting before I've done it! Hes just getting over tired now as he isn't getting enough sleep during the day but I know I need to persevere. Shall I just start with one nap a day? Or does that give mixed messages? How have any of you done it? Thanks

Also, I keep reading that the room should be dark and quiet for naps but also baby should be in the same room as you for all sleeps! If he's in the lounge it can't be dark and quiet and if he sleeps in his room then I won't be with him. Where does your baby nap at 2 months? Thanks

Baby should be sleeping downstairs where you are until 6 months. Do the dark/quiet stuff just at night until then.

As for getting baby in to the Moses basket- yeah it's always tricky. A swaddle (to reduce sensations) and dummy (to maintain self soothing) are both very helpful tools for putting baby down independently.

DC will be fine downstairs in the day, doesn’t matter about the darkness etc right now.

I used to have to rock my LO till he was literally flat in the basket then rock the basket abit. And I always waited 20 mins till he was in deep sleep before putting down.
It’s not easy tbh but they do get the hang of it.

I kept a lot of the lap naps until my son was over 6 months. I just kept snacks, drinks and the TV remote near by. I then moved on to naps in the pram because he'd sleep much longer there than in his cot. He's two now and walks up to his cot (and climbs in) for nap time so I don't think it's caused any issues.

Thank you so much for your replies. I'll definitely keep him downstairs with me then. He naps fine with the light and noise on me so he should do it in the moses basket! That's a good tip about rocking him until he's asleep then rocking him in he moses basket, looking back that's how I got him to sleep well in his night crib and now he can resettle himself fine there if he wakes up, so it would make sense to do it with the moses basket. I may just do one or two naps a day for now so he knows he will have cuddles too.

That's great to know that your baby has now issues with naps after you had cuddled them for naps for so long! That's definitely my big concern, but if yours was ok after 6 months hopefully my little man will be ok after just 10 weeks.

I swear being a mum is just spending every day thinking you're doing everything wrong!

Thank you🙂
