I'm not sure sharing how others get their child to sleep will help, because by 22 months each family will have had nearly two years of sleep habits to build on.

It more matters what you are doing now, and how that could change.

For my own children:

  • in the cot for sleeping - not ready for a bed until past 3rd birthday.
  • dealt with cot climbing phase at circa 18 months by repetitive assertion of boundaries and behaviour expectations, staying with in nursery while falling asleep to do this.
  • Baby going to sleep in cot from 4 months, with me staying beside the cot for all settling.
  • gradually withdraw the dependence on me being close by to fall asleep.
  • dummy for sleep time only
  • by 22 months bedtime/naptime involved "Are you ready for dummy?" Go upstairs, change clothes, close curtains, give dummy, give kiss, leave and close door.
