Routine etc

Please can you help me with routines for night time my little one is nearly 4 months old he has a bottle at 8pm then falls asleep and wakes up at 2am then 6am. I wake him normally at 11pm and he sleeps until in between 5:30-7:30. I’ve heard people talk about dream feeding but it’s impossible as I change his nappy and he wakes up straight away. I’m still so exhausted with the broken sleep sometimes.

Does he need a nappy change at 11pm or is it just routine to change when going to feed?
If there’s no poo then try without changing him.

No poo no just a change for routine and a wee in his nappy

I wouldn't be changing a babies nappy overnight unless it had leaked or they'd poo'd. DS poo during every feed (BF) when newborn. As soon as this stopped I didn't change him - first thing When he's up for the day.

He never even opened his eyes during night wakes. He stirred, I fed him, we both went back to sleep.

Don't make life any harder for yourself than it has to be.

Try not changing him and feeding him. If it’s the nappy change that wakes him.
Long as he hasn’t done a poo and of course his nappy isn’t bulding he’ll be fine to not have a nappy change.
Because it’s working well if he goes from then to 5:30-7:30 the early rising will start to disappear

Okie dokie the only thing is if I don’t wake him to feed at 11pm he wakes up during the night for a feed in anyways so like 2am

I wouldn't change in the night unless poo.

Do the 11pm dreamfeed without waking if possible - just pick him up and pop the bottle in his mouth.

Sunny1112 · 02/05/2021 14:13

You still feed him at 11 just don’t change his nappy which wakes him up.
Bottle in mouth when he’s asleep

Night waking is normal I'm afraid - try making the changes suggested above, but it might not make any difference... do you have a partner who can help?

Cmasx · 02/05/2021 14:16

Yeah I have a partner who can help but I get so guilty that he works and has to be up early so I do last feed and night feeds and then when he’s off work he does them

I think it's normal to wake once in the night still at that age. I do a feed at 10pm, halfway through change nappy then give the rest of the feed so they're sleepy again. I follow the Gina Ford feeding schedule (and ignore everything else she says!) and this works for us, gradually the feed in the night after this is getting later so hopefully soon will be going to 6:30/7am.

So if you don’t feed at 12 he goes 8pm-2am and then back down to 6am? If that is the case then I would count myself pretty lucky tbh, that’s 9ish hours of sleep, if you go to bed when he does.
