How Long Should It Take For A 23mo To Get To Sleep?

My 23mo son seems to take 30-50 minutes to get to sleep.

We put him to bed at 19:30, and he just lays there for 30-50 minutes babbling to himself. We leave him after about 5-10 minutes. When he does get to sleep we are lucky he sleeps right through to 08:00.

He has done this since he was at about 16mo, so thought this was normal, but friends say there children are sleep in under 5 mins.

What does normal look like? If there is such a thing with toddlers in a sleep problems section :)

If he's happy I'd call that a win.

I can often lay in bed for that long trying to sleep, so it makes sense to me a toddler would too.

If he's happy then I wouldn't worry about it. Perhaps he just needs a little longer to wind down than other babies. My daughter is the same age and usually drifts off quickly, but sometimes she sings and chatters for 15-20 minutes.

DS is a similar age and it all depends on his lunchtime nap. Anything more than 1hr 10 and he takes up to an hour to get to sleep (although is quite happy chatting to himself).

If his lunchtime nap is around an hour (normal for a nursery day) he's asleep within 20 mins.
