30 Minute Naps...help!

My son is 11.5 months and for the past 2 months will only sleep for 30 minutes in the daytime. He wakes up and is initially fine and then his behaviour deteriorates and he gets aggravated at little things because he's tired but will fight naps continuously!

Very strangely he's a good night sleeper, but just doesn't want to sleep in the day! We are currently putting him down for 2 naps, one around 9:30 and one around 1/2pm, he usually goes to bed between 6:30-7 and will go down no problem. I thought maybe he was ready for 1 nap, but we attempted it and I'm sure he still needs 2. He only slept for 30 mins still even on the 1 nap attempts.

Is this the 10-12 month regression or do we just have a baby who doesn't like napping? I've tried the 'wake to sleep' method which only gave us 40 mins at most.

Any advice is welcomed! Is it worth doing a sleep programme for day napping even though he's good at night?

Thanks!

What was his sleep like at 9 months old?

Where did he sleep? Has it changed?
How did he go to sleep? What happens now?
How long was he napping for at at what times?

@FATEdestiny at 9 months he used to go down for daytime naps fine and would go down anywhere between 30-60 mins, occasionally 1.5 hours!
He's slept in his own room in a cot since 6.5 months.
He now fights naps a lot and will go down but after about 30-40 minutes, whereas I say before it would take about 10-15?

What do you do in the 30-40 Mins it take him to go to sleep?

CinnamonCurls · 27/04/2021 22:32

@FATEdestiny we tend to sit beside his cot a bit out of view till he goes down because he has a tendency to roll and climb! If we leave, he screams in the day, but if we leave in the evening or at night, he has no problem with it!

@CinnamonCurls I have the exact same problem with my 11.5 month old. I don't really have the best solution but my only way of extending the second nap is to walk him in the pram. He normally does 30 mins in the morning for his first nap and then 1.5 hours in the pram as long as continually walk. It's not always fun but I can't figure out how to get him to sleep longer in the cot and I'm worried to disturb the nights. He normally sleeps straight through from 7-6:30

@Daniellen7456 I wish pram naps would help up, but he loves being in the pram so as soon as he goes in, he just wants to look around and not sleep! 😩 We've managed to get him back down if we rub his head as soon as he wakes after the 30 mins and shh him back to sleep and the other day he went down a total of 2.5 hours! Really hoping past his 1st birthday, this phase passes!
