I know I should have got my 15 month old daughter sleeping alone a lot sooner but it wasn't possible as we live in a 1 bedroom house (she was a surprise!). We are now moving to a bigger house but she has always slept in a cot next to me and I'm not sure how to transition her into her own room. Any suggestions would be great!!

If she's in a cot next to your bed, this won't be difficult so don't worry. Different matter if she was in your bed, but she's already sleeping independently so it should be easy.

I wouldn't move her out of your bedroom until she is a sleeping through. Is she doing this now?

If so, next work towards her going to sleep alone, without you in the room. Is she doing this already?

Once she is, then move the cot away from your bed. Even if just a bit. It move it to the bottom if your bed or the other side of the room. Once she's ok with that, move the cot into own room.

Keep everything else the same. Same cot, same bedding, same bed time routine. You might need to take a few steps backwards in terms of extra reassurance at bedtime. But I wouldn't expect anything major.

She sleeps through most nights and once asleep, if I leave the room it doesn't really disturb her. I will definitely try moving the cot to the bottom of the bed and see how she gets on. Thank you for your advice. She is my first so it's hard to know what to do, especially since her whole life has been in lock down so we've not even been able to go to baby groups! Confused

For what it's worth, I think 15 months is spot on the right time for moving baby to own room anyway, even if you had a bedroom ready for her.

I kept all my 4 childrens cot in my room until at least 12 months old, then made the move between 12-18 months. It was all very easy and stress-free.

That's good to know. People at work with children have said I should've done it much sooner and it would be really hard now so I was worrying. She's quite an easy going baby so hopefully it won't be too stressful!
