hi folks. we seem to be going backwards in our napping. DD (6mths) is really not sleeping / napping through the day. we have a battle to get her to go over with alot of crying. i have tried to egt a nap rountie going - ie we have cuddles, story, sleepigng bag on, music and down in cot. it used to work but no more!

she used to sleep in her sling and buggy but the same now - alot of crying and upset.

to top this - now her naps only last about 20mins. she goes to sleep cross and wakes up cross. i have tried the whole shush pat to get her back over but to no avail?? she has 3 of these naps a day - by evening she is knackered.
she is fine to get down at night but still up twice for feeds.

tips?

Could there be something causing it if it is a new thing? eg her teeth?

weeonion · 12/11/2007 10:19

no signs of teething as yet.

It could be the timing is just a bit out. What time does she go down for her first sleep, what does she do before that?

weeonion · 12/11/2007 12:23

she gets up anywher between 6 and 7am. i feed her, we have quiet play til about 8.15 then brekkie. quiet time and windo don after that and try to have her down for a nap about 9am.

hi weeonion

Have you started taking her to any M and B groups yet?

I am a CM and I have found that around about this age a trip out somewhere utterly thrilling like a baby group can really make a difference. They have a whale of a time just looking at other babies, and habdling new things. The stimulation might prompt a longer nap after.

Sounds like a morning group might suit your routine better, eg get up brekkie, play, nap then out for 10-ish for an hour or so.

Lots of fresh air too, wrap her up warm and away you go.

HTH

Aw weeonin it's not easy is it ?

You are doing all the right things so plod on. This stage doesn't last forever although sometimes it feels like it

If you are getting really tired could you send her to family or friends for an afternoon, get your head down ?

weeonion · 12/11/2007 12:51

ta balr - sadly - we have no family nearby. all in ireland. dp is a nurse so works long shifts - he is usually home after her bedtime.

what i think is hard is that she used to be so happy / cheery and now just seems so cranky all the time.

one thing that works for me when DD's routine is changing, or when we get all out of sync because of trips, is to hibernate for about 4 days. It's a bit depressing, but I mostly stay in for a few days, (get a big shop in before hand!) so I can keep a really close eye on when she's getting tired. If we're out and about, sometimes I don't spot it, or she has a short nap because things are too interesting. After a few days I can see what her new pattern is, and then work around that most days.

BoysAreLikeReindeer · 12/11/2007 12:58

Bless you, weeonion.

You've tried shush pat, she's too young for CC . Perhaps her teeth are playing her up...although you can't see them yet they could be moving down? Have you tried bonjela/teething powders ?

weeonion · 14/11/2007 22:44

ta balr - she dosnt seem to be teething. spent most of today out walking with her in buggy. she would sleep - but only in short bursts.
i used to n=babywear her all the time - loved it but if she isnt gonna sleep - then the buggy it is!
