Four month old baby - getting enough sleep?

18 weeks old if it makes a difference, he’s getting on average 12 hours a day, day and night. About 3 at daytime. Hear some babies sleep 12 hours a night not the whole 24 hours? He seems ok in general not grumpy, undertired, worried developmental it’s not enough at his age?

That's probably not enough sleep.

However it's more about awake time than it is sleep time.

As a general rule awake time (between waking from one nap and being asleep for the next nap) wants to be around double previous nap length (plus or minus 15 minutes). And never more than 2h.

Thus us obviously for daytime. At night time, be resetting back to sleep as soon as baby wakes without any awake time.

So if baby naps for 30 minutes, then I'd start settling for the next nap after 45 minutes awake time, with the view that baby would be asleep between 45-75 minutes from last waking up.

If baby naps for 1h or longer, I'd start settling to sleep after about 1h45m awake, so that asleep within 2h of waking.

And so on...
