3 month old sleep

My 3 month old has never slept for more than 4.5 hours in a row, and has only done that twice. Usually sleeps in cot for 2 x 2.5 / 3 hour stretches from around 9pm til 3am, then things deteriorate into no more than 1 hour stretches in cot, or I bring him into bed with me and he sleeps on me for a good stretch (but I don't sleep).

He only naps on me or on the move during the day so I have no chance to catch up on sleep. Some nights I get a fair amount of cumulative sleep but the fact it is so broken up is starting to take its toll. I've barely slept for longer than 3 hours since he was born.

Any ideas how I can get him sleeping in longer stretches? I'm EBF. We have a loose night time routine but not too rigid yet as think he's too young. I make sure he gets his daytime naps even though he fights them! For the first 10 weeks he wouldn't sleep in his cot / on his back at all - so at least we've improved a bit since then.

I thought his pattern was fairly 'normal' but I regularly read posts on here saying babies of a similar age are sleeping far longer.

No advice but just to reassure you that you are not alone - DS never slept for more than a few hours at a time until he was 3 years (then he was still up and down but less so) and DD is 2.5 years and I'm up at least twice during the night. I think it's pretty normal and some people just get lucky! 3 months is still very young so I think you will be in the same boat as the majority of parents. Hope things improve soon and maybe someone can offer something helpful on here!
