Concerned

A bit concerned my 18 mo isn't getting enough sleep. He has started refusing bedtime at 7 after a day in nursery (he is exhausted) and he usually won't go to sleep until 8.30.

He wakes up around 5am and sometimes will go back to sleep in my bed for an hour or so but most of the time is awake for the day.

Although I can tell he is still exhausted. He is very upset, whingey, won't eat or drink, not happy with anything. It's extremely stressful at this time in the morning.

I cannot force him to go back to sleep.
If I leave him in cot he cries until we get him.

I'm not bothered about my own sleep I am simply worried he is not getting what he needs and will be unhappy in nursery all day. It is a vicious circle and has been going on for a while now.

Any advice welcome 🙂

He does sound (very) over tired.

On days when he's very grumpy I'd be inclined to do a morning plus afternoon nap, pushing the pm nap and bedtime later. Only on days when he's not tetchy would I power through to a single lunchtime nap.
