Waking up and whining

For a number of months now, DD who is 18 months, wakes us up by lying flat in her cot whining - any ideas on why this is happening? It’s like a series of one long whines.

Previously she was a great sleeper and sat up babbling to herself when she woke but now she’s laid flat, whining and stroking the cot. She can do this a few times a night but thankfully often gets herself back off to sleep but a few nights a week we have to go in and get her back off. Would love her to go back to sleeping through!

Thanks

She's likely to be struggling to get herself back to sleep when she's whining.
