What time to go to bed with a newborn?

Hello, I have a 1 week old, who obviously sleeps most of the time haha. I just wanted to know what time other mums/parents actually go to bed themselves every night?

We have been sticking to our normal pre-baby routine of around 11/12pm but I feel the earlier I go the better sleep I'll have. (Well, obviously!)

I just wondered what others did? Thank you!

With a newborn I'd turn the lights off and go to sleep about 9pm ☺️

I used to go to sleep at 8pm! It was the only way to guarantee a chunk as he’d sleep for 4 hours from 8-12 and then wake every 1-2 hours after that. If I’d stayed up til 11 I think I’d have collapsed with exhaustion!

Tomatobear · 07/02/2021 09:32

Congratulations! 7-8pm for a few months

TwirpingBird · 07/02/2021 09:39

My DD is 3 months now and if I get to 10pm i am doing well. At 1 week it was whenever I could after I put my toddler to bed at 7pm. You go when you are tired lol.

DavidsSchitt · 07/02/2021 09:47

They're all different aren't they?

With my first we went about 11pm as he woke around 3 for a feed. With my second he never woke in the night at all so whenever we wanted

SomeonesRealName · 07/02/2021 10:01

I'm sure you'll fall into a pattern that suits you OP there's no one size fits all.

Katjolo · 07/02/2021 11:13

9pm

NeverWillIEver · 07/02/2021 11:22

8pm for me. OH did the 12am feed and then I got up for the 4am after having 8 hours of sleep.

Couldn't have managed it any other way. I can not function on little sleep.

MissHoney85 · 07/02/2021 11:43

Our DD (usually) sleeps in a Moses Basket in the living room with us from around 7.30-10. I go up to bed at around 8.30/9 and my DH brings her up at 10 so I get some extra sleep. Not sure whether DD's bedtime would count as 7.30 or 10 in that scenario!

Vicky1989x · 07/02/2021 14:52

I had to wake my baby every 4 hours for the first month (she was born 4 weeks early with a low birth weight) so I’d do a feed around 8pm then I’d go to bed for a few hours and set an alarm for the next feed.

Babyboomtastic · 07/02/2021 18:48

11ish. I just can't usually fall asleep earlier.

BoJingle · 07/02/2021 18:51

About the same as you. Once she was a few weeks old we realised the pattern that she was waking at about 12/just after, so we introduced an 11pm dream feed and went to bed after that. We're not early sleepers so 8pm would never work for us

newstart1234 · 07/02/2021 18:52

I used to get into bed around 7 or 8 and read or listen to podcasts or audiobooks until I was tired with the baby next to me. It was like that around 3 months.

Eileen101 · 07/02/2021 18:55

With my first, as soon as he was asleep, knowing it would be an hour or so until he was awake again Confused with my second, around 9pm when she finished cluster feeding and conked out until 12/1ish.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 07/02/2021 18:58

3-4am. DS wouldn't sleep anywhere but on us, so DH slept from 9pm till 3.30ish and I went to sleep as soon as DS was settled on DH until he next needed feeding, or until 8am to have enough time to have a super quick shower before DH had to leave for work.. It was utterly hell.

Ithinkhedidit · 07/02/2021 19:00

Crikey, sleep when you can! My first cluster fed til 11pm-midnight so I was feeding til then anyway. My second began doing his first proper long stint of sleep each night at about 7pm from the start (absolute dream!) so I'd shower then go to bed too as he still woke in the night for feeds. I've never been late to bed though- even pre kids I was usually in bed by 10pm.

mrsed1987 · 07/02/2021 19:06

About 10pm, my other half would stay up till the 1am feed and have baby downstairs with him. Then bring him up and settle him upstairs. Id do the 4am feed and then we would share getting up to get the 7am/8am feed.

I actually miss those days, he is 2 now and never sits still 😂😂

iMatter · 07/02/2021 19:25

When my two were tiny we used to go bed at 8 because we were so knackered and all we were doing was watching tv every evening. Absolutely grab every chance to sleep while you can! It's good for your mental and physical health.
