Teething help- waking up loads despite calpol

11 month old baby, can see a tooth underneath the gum and he’s chewing on his fingers all day.

He doesn’t sleep through the night normally, but it’s fairly normal for him to wake up once in the night, have milk and then go back to sleep until 5:30-6:15am.

The past few nights though he’s been going to bed at 7pm as usual, then waking up at 10 or 11pm and waking up loads after that, every 1-2 hours. Giving calpol at bedtime doesn’t stop the before-midnight wake ups.

I’ve been giving calpol or nurofen when he first wakes up but he still wakes up long before it should have worn off.

Sometimes I can put him back in the cot and he will cry for a minute or two but then go quiet..:only to start crying again 10 or 15 minutes later.

I have no idea what to do. He’s put in the cot awake for naps and at bedtime so I don’t think it’s a “self-settling” issue. But if it’s teething i don’t understand why he’s waking 90mins after being calpol.

I’m really, really exhausted and I have another child to look after as well so no opportunity to rest during the day.

He has 2 naps- 1.5 hours at 9am and then another nap at 2pm which I tend to cap to 1 hour. Bedtime is 6:45 or 7pm.

Any wise words or suggestions please?

Maybe he’s overtired? Have you tried letting his 2nd nap last a little longer?

Try anbesol as well. It'll pass in a few days once it's broken the gum though.

Have you tried teething grains? Significantly improved discomfort for our daughter 25 years ago and they’re helping her baby now.

Thanks very much for the suggestions! @Vicky1989x I’ve been wondering if we are getting the afternoon nap wrong- not sure whether he’s overtired, but if I leave him to wake up naturally then sometimes he’s been awake for hours in the night and I think it’s because he’s under tired. So hard to get the balance right!

We are already using granules and anbesol but thank you anyway.
