Restless legs 12 DD

Hi, wonder if anyone can help. My DD has progressively got worse with sleeping since the eve of her birthday last year. She has a particularly bad night with shaking legs. Since, we have taken her to the doctors and she has had three blood tests to ensure her vitamins are ok. Which thankfully they are. Since august it has happened a handful of times however in the last two weeks it seems to be every other night. We have tried lots of different things and she always had a very good bedtime routine. The doc as advised to keep an eye on her and she may need cbt if it doesn't get better. Has anyone else had this with their children at this age and recommend any tips. Thanks in advance.

My DD is 9 and has recently started with awful restless legs. After lots of blood tests we found out she had Glandular Fever (recent antibodies) and was also slightly anaemic. She’s taking Floradix liquid daily which is brilliant. For the symptoms she has paracetamol and ibruprofen 15 min before bed max dose, no hot bath and no caffeine products (as ages only 9 that’s just chocolate really) but as the virus goes she should get better. They did also check for kidneys/sugars but I think you will have been checked for that.

As an adult I've used paracetamol and magnesium spray. The latter can sting initially so follow the instructions and build it up. I found magnesium spray helped a lot. Places such as Holland and Barrett sell it.

I might try iron supplement.in future to having read previous post. Thank you.

@ParisNext I hope the recovery is quick. How awful.

Iron or magnesium might well be the culprits. Have you seen the actual results from the bloods? I think in some people symptoms can show up when they're at the low end of the normal range.

Fizzgigg · 01/02/2021 18:22

I tried magnesium spray too. I think it helped a bit. However my new weighted blanket has been a real eye opener and I'm absolutely not suffering with restless legs in the same way at all!

@BabycakesMatlala no we haven't actually seen the results this is a good point.

👍 I'd definitely check through all the actual results.

Appreciate I am an adult, but I echo PPs recommendations for magnesium supplements and magnesium oil. It does feel weird so I put it on while I’m reading then wipe it off when I try to sleep and it still seems to work.

I find Spatone (liquid iron) really helps for this.

bigarse1 · 01/02/2021 20:05

As a child I had to drink tonic water to help with this. It's the quinine that's supposed to help if I remember?
My children and I suffer from it and my children were put on iron to help

Fizzgigg · 01/02/2021 20:24

Fair enough! Glad it's helped a little. I also remember quinine being recommended to me as a teen.
