Hi,

We have a lovely 7 month old boy who is amazing at self settling at bedtime. Once we've done our routine of bath, bottle, book, lights out, little cuddle then I can put him in bed awake and he will settle himself to sleep. Naps are a bit of a different story. I mimic the same bedtime routine, except the bath and bottle. So we'll do nappy change, sleepbag, book, lights out but when we get to the cuddle stage he will normally start fussing and crying. I can calm him down really quickly but I have to rock him so he's somewhat droopy eyed before I put him to bed. He always knows he's being put down though and will drift off after a few minutes. Is this normal or can I train him so I can put him in wide awake? I'm conscious of his wake windows which are about 3 hours long atm. x

Hi, my 5 month old is the same for bedtime routine then she will go straight off but for nap times she just gets fussy and gets her self so worked up because she just doesn't want to go to sleep but sometimes she's awake for hours purely because she won't go off. I don't know how else to get her to nap I've tried everything some days she will fall asleep on me but I have to rock her or stand up with her then other days she will only go to sleep in her carry cot then other days she just won't settle with either😩xxx

Long time ago but I know mine used to just go to sleep when he felt like it, wherever he happened to be at the time. There was no set routine. I often carried him upstairs to bed and had a sleep myself! If I didn't want to do that I'd tuck him up comfortably downstairs near me and did my own thing. Those days were nice and gentle, we pleased ourselves. Happy memories.
