my ds is 14 months he has had a cold recently and me being a big softie I was cuddling him to sleep now he wakes loads in the night and wont go back to bed easily. I dont want to use CC, I have used the pu/pd method in the past does anyone know how I can use this for him now he is older. should I just lay him back down when he stands? or pick him up then lay him back down. he gets himself so upset with me doing this though....feel so sorry for him. but me and my dp are now going slowly insane due to being up for hours in the night. can anyone offer me wisdom?

Hi melli

Yes you can use the pick up / put down method for a 14 month old. IF my ds goes through a bad patch (if he is teething or has a cold) he is quite fretful at night time too and I find this method good and not as brutal as cc. Sometimes I dont even pick him up just stroke his hair.

Dont feel like he is getting upset. It probably his way of commuicating iyswim. Also, could he be teething? Ds get a cold when he is teething for some reason.

((hugs)) to you as I know what it is like. It will pass I promise.

thanku joaneg. well he is teething as well, think the large molars (i think thats what they are called) are coming in at the top. felt one ther last night. I just managed to get him to sleep without cuddles (but with his normal hour of bouncing around the cot) so maybe he is feeling a bit better. i feel there is hope for bedtime/nightwakings. u r really kind your post gave me that bit of support I was needing
will keep u updated

melli

The large molars are the most painful teeth to come through so will probably explain a lot.

My ds does that hour bounce around his cot before he goes to sleep and sometimes even has a little sing song to himself! I think that it helps him wind down!!

I hope that you get some sleep tonight x keep us updated

well the first night without hugs/rocking to sleep was hard..he woke a few times crying hard every time but seems to be learning better sleep patterns. he woke 3 times last night too but settled back reletivly easily. so it is worth persavering hey? wanted to ask you about your ds' nap time. do you leave the room once you put him down? then let him wind down (aka jump about the cot)I stay with my ds but am not sure its doing him any good , i tend to get frustrated because i lay him down each time he stands..but then he just gets up again we go on like this for an hour...my method doesnt seem to be working as its been like this for months. mayb I just have to accept it.
