18m old crying at night

Hi all
My 18m old daughter has always been a great sleeper. She is very much a routine baby and sleeps 7-7.
For the past week or so her sleep has been awful and I'm at my wits end. We can't leave the room or she falls to bits (even when she seems asleep and we creep out), she's up between 2 and 4 hours every night. Some nights crying hysterically, others just a bit unhappy but generally ok.
I write this now as she woke at 5 screaming and is still not letting me leave the room. She's always been great at getting herself off to sleep and waves goodbye after her story but there's no sign of that returning. Her day nap is fine (12-130 ish generally). Does anyone have any ideas, how can we get through this?
Thank you!

We have this issue. We've put a mattress on the floor in DDs room so we can lay down and sleep while waiting for her to drift back off. She just needs to know we are there with her.

At least this way, we get more rest.
