How does the 4 month regression end?

For those who didn’t sleep train: how did your LO’s 4 month regression end? And WHEN?
My DD is 20 weeks and her sleep has been very bad for the past 6 weeks. Used to sleep fairly well up to 3 months as most babies I guess.
Looking for some hope!
Thank you

How does it end?

Not with a bang, with a whimper of joy And a high five and that euphoria lasts about 3 months then it all happens again. And then repeat. And repeat. As for when it will happen? Well, anyone's guess to be honest.

Head down - get through it - tag team as needed.

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz ahah, yeah, I figured. How long did the other regressions last for you?

God they came and went in a blur tbh and were different for each if my dc. I'd say we got them:-

  • developmental leaps - so learning to walk, learning to talk
  • a big change in circumstances - e.g. dh away for a month when they were 12mo and they didn't sleep properly for weeks after he came back (fine while he was away!)
  • any bug set us back a good fortnight after they were well again
  • at about 18mo growth spurt

But like I say, we had different experiences across both kids. How we handled it depended on ages. Under 1 - offer milk or cuddles at night. Over 1 - we offered water only/no eye contact etc.

If you find out let me know, we're 4 weeks deep and it's only getting worse... #sendhelp

I feel like we haven’t come out of it yet

Baby now 8 months

Nix2020 · 21/01/2021 19:57

Ended at six and a half months when I sleep trained. 2.5 month of no sleep was affecting me too much.

Incrediblytired · 21/01/2021 20:02

I’m afraid it didn’t for me. I sleep trained at 7.5 months.

11 months and still in it Confused

Can anyone give any advise on what worked with sleep training?

Babyboomtastic · 22/01/2021 04:42

It doesn't end as such because it's caused by a permanent shift in how a baby sleeps, but one day you'll notice that it's not as bad as it was and sleep starts to settle again. Followed by minor bugs, growth spurts, other regressions and teething, with a period of anywhere from 1 day between them to a few weeks of relative stability, and then things start to calm down a bit after the age of 2ish as the teeth all arrive and the regressions gradually stop.

For me it got a bit better towards 5 months then got worse again just after that. She's worse than ever now at almost 6 months so thinking I'm going to look into some gentle sleep training
